15.17.15 (in progress)

By doing this daily challenge (or by not doing it) made me realize that art is just a small part of who I am and who I want to be. During the 10 days I retreated myself from this challenge, I did some work on my music, video editing and free lancing. I love art, but forcing myself to do it was counter-productive because I needed to express myself in other medium.

So I will be stopping the daily challenge and will only paint when I feel like it and upload when I feel proud of my work. I will also take the time to practice and improve on my other skills. That's just who I am :/

2.7.15 and 4.7.15

Oh dear, I've skipped a few days :(
I do feel incredibly disappointed in myself. But I've been so busy with freelance work and other projects that I really needed some time off. I can't believe how I could get too tired to take 1 hour from everyday to do a painting, but it happens.

I'm continuing the everyday challenge. I just now know how hard it's going to be from time to time.

Tuesday 30 June 2015

30.6.15

End of June and my daily challenge has resulted me feeling uninspired and exhausted.

Sigh, I hope July will be better.

Sunday 28 June 2015

Let's Fight Together!

With pride, we celebrate Gay Pride Parade 2015 and fight for the freedom to love.

Monday 22 June 2015

22.6.15

I've been doing a lot of paintings lately so I thought I'd practice more on my sketching today.

Draw with Jazza's Age Swap Challenge

Where's the babyyy? THERE HE IS!
This is my entry for Draw With Jazza's June Monthly Challenge.
Manny and Squirt from Ice Age. I did some research for this (I watched Ice Age again, and I also) looked at some images of what humans looked like back in the ice age.
I really enjoyed this challenge. I'm quite proud of Squirt's face and the landscape. This has also been a massive learning curve because I've experimented with several layer options and settings.

Saturday 20 June 2015

20.6.15

Sorry, I'll paint this tomorrow. Too... *yawn*... tired.

Friday 19 June 2015

19.6.15

Practicing for the Draw With Jazza Monthly Challange. I'm planning to do an ICE AGE age swap. So far I've only got one character in, I've yet to do 3 more. How riveting (!).

18.6.15

Feeling good because it feels like I'm getting back on track!

Wednesday 17 June 2015

17.6.15 #2

Artist block was strong, tonight.

17.6.15

Wasn't up for painting today :/ Ah man, I can't believe this is happening. I have designed some logos for rasikaCart.

Which do you prefer?

Monday 15 June 2015

15.6.15

One con I have found when value mapping is that NO COLOUR EVER WORKS!

Sunday 14 June 2015

14.6.15

Landscape painting has always been a weak point for me. I don't know, I always tend to give up during the rendering stage and say "That'll do!". This painting really proves that point.

Oh well, this means I need to practice more and watch a lot more Bob Ross episodes.

Saturday 13 June 2015

13.6.15

This one was inspired by an All You Need Is Kill cover and concept art. I've also used a new set of brushes I got from Comic Artist Monthly.

Thursday 11 June 2015

11.6.15 #2

Here we go! Another skin tone study, taking the colour palette from a Jessica Chastain photograph (excluding the hair of course).

11.6.15

Tried a mech design today. I've also attempted to do a gradient map. Yeeeeeaaaaah. . . I need a lot more practice but I had fun attempting it.

Wednesday 10 June 2015

10.6.15

YAWN! Today's just a really tiring day. Unfortunately, I really just want to sleep right now and only have the tiniest bit of energy to do this character skin tone practice from imagination.

Boom. I sleep now.

Maybe I'll do something better tomorrow.

Tuesday 9 June 2015

9.6.15

Again, another skin tone study using Mad Max: Fury Road as a reference.

Monday 8 June 2015

8.6.15 #2

I guess you could say I'm still caught up with Mad Max hype. The painting from imagination I did earlier in the day didn't work out or I did a skin tone study with a reference image.

8.6.15 #1

This is the first illustration of the day and it's very poorly. One of those days, huh?

7.6.15

My first daily study. I really just messed around with a blue and orange colour palette here and created something very rough.

A New Project

I have decided to dedicate this blog to my art progress as well as my editing progress. I have drawing for as long as I can remember but I never really thought I could make a career out of it. I've always wanted to, of course, but didn't bother to put any effort into training myself to work at a professional and employable level.

Well, I predict that it's gonna be a long and difficult journey. I plan to try and do at least one painting/drawing/study everyday and will be posting my progress on this blog (or that you and I can laugh at how horrible they are and) to document my learning process.

I'll still be editing and posting about it. Ya know, you can out your fingers in more than one pies... I hate that expression.

Above: A character concept design I did last year.

My goal is to do a thousand bad drawings. Or a million. Whatever it takes to get myself to an employable level. And to improve as an artist and a story teller. I've always wanted to be a comic artist or concept artist. I love coming up with ideas and thinking about stories. I hope to learn lots of creative problem solving skills and to not get attached to every piece of work I produce.

Right. Well, we'll see how it goes :) keep up with my project if you want. And if you decide to do this yourself, be sure to share your progress with me!

Live long and pwoper!

My Favourite Films of 2014

2014 Movies Tribute

Another year of amazing cinema. Making this tribute video really reminds me how much I love film because there has been brilliant films has defined conventions of storytelling.

I've used over 100 movies that I've found in IMDB articles and Youtube trailer channels. Of course, there were loads of movies included in this video that I haven't seen and is looking forward to checking them out soon. I've yet to check out are Gone Girl, Her, Nightcrawler and The Grand Budapest Hotel. And because I live in the UK, I'm so excited to see the UK releases of Whiplash and Birdman and Boyhood.

MY TOP 3 FILMS OF 2014

Films like Locke, Guardians of The Galaxy and Dawn of The Planet of The Apes were the ones that really made 2014 memorable for me.

"Locke" by Steven Knight
Now, let me tell you a little something about me; I have taught myself how to do a backflip, I have monkey-climbed a 40 feet high obstacle and I have sat through the terrifying...ly terrible Larry Kasanoff's "Foodfight!". Brave acts, they may be. But I was as brave as Steven Knight was when he created Locke. Making an entire movie with one character driving in a car the entire time, now that's bravery.
I haven't much of Knight's work but after watching his TV series, "Peaky Blinders", I have noticed how great he is with words. He writes the most memorable, the most real and the most beautiful scripts.
I love the cinematography in this film too, ya wouldn't thunk it when 98% of the film is in the driver's seat of a car. But the way it was edited with melancholy music and layers of colours and lights, the whole movie felt very... meditative. But a very tense meditation due to the intriguing and brilliant story. I'm not gonna say anything about the narrative. All I'll say is that Tom Hardy was brilliant. In fact, all the actors who's just gave their voices were amazing. I connected to all the characters without the need to see their faces, now that's incredible and that is what makes Locke one of favourites of the year.

"Guardians of The Galaxy" by James Gunn
After seeing this movie, I think I can forgive James Gunn for the atrocity that is "Movie 43" (it's okay, it was all a bad dream...). Guardians of The Galaxy has raised all of my hopes for Marvel movies (it's not like it could be raised anymore).
I love this movie so much. Older teachers and friends of mine have always talked about how Star Wars and Jurassic Park was the movies of their generation. Now, I have the ability to feel like my generation also has decade-defining movies. I won't forget to mention the also very awesome "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" that also came out this year; the best stand-alone Avengers movie since Iron Man, which I will brag to the next generation about. Can't wait for more Marvel movies. Keep em' coming!

"Dawn of The Planet of The Apes" by Matt Reeves
This film is a beautiful piece of work. Stunning CGI, compelling action, impressive cast and astonishing writing. Andy Serkis gave a breath-taking performance, I love the relationship between Caeser and Malcolm.
This movie made me feel all sorts of emotions. Not since King Kong have I thought about "humanity" and love outside of the human race. [Minor spoiler] I particularly love the scene where Alexander Maurice his comic book. It was just so heart-warming due to the contrast of that scene and the theme of fear and hatred throughout the film.
Loved every minute of it.

Happy new year, everyone! To another year of great cinema. Cheers!
